VINCENT’S PERSEVERANCE.

Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most influential painters of all time, you would have to have lived in a very dark cave with no Wi-Fi to have never heard of him or seen one of his paintings, yet he suffered from crippling self-doubt about his artwork. Throughout his life, he faced many rejections and criticisms that led him to a sense of deep insecurity regarding his talent as an artist. Most of us are equally filled with this same doubt when faced with criticism or obstacles.  There were times when doubt filled him up to the point it became overwhelming, leading him to destroy some works or give them away for free due to a lack of confidence in their worthiness as art. Many of his works were lost. Despite this adversity, Van Gogh continued to create, often focusing on the beauty found in nature and everyday life; he had moments where he felt confident with his creations, though he never gained fame or financial success during his lifetime. Even with these struggles, he paint...

Overcoming Creative Doubt

We all experience doubt in our creative abilities from time to time. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start when faced with a new project or task but, it is important to remember that creativity comes from within and we have the power within us to overcome any doubts we may have about our own capabilities.

  • The first step is recognizing that your doubts exist and understanding why they are there.

  • Are you comparing yourself too harshly with others?

  • Are you feeling discouraged because something didn’t turn out the way you wanted it?

Once you understand what's causing these feelings, then take some action steps towards overcoming them.

  • Start by setting small goals for yourself.

  • Don't try tackling everything at once but break down large tasks into smaller chunks so that each one feels more manageable.

  • Make sure those goals are realistic as well; if something seems too daunting, break it up even further into achievable pieces until each goal feels doable.

  • Celebrate every success along the way no matter how small as this will help build your confidence back up again.

  • Remember not be afraid of mistakes or failure; use them instead as learning opportunities which will make future successes easier (and sweeter).

  • Lastly, reach out for support when needed: talk through ideas with friends/family/colleagues who can offer advice & encouragement plus help keep motivation levels high throughout projects & tasks.

By using these tips above hopefully we can all become more productive despite any self-doubt creeping in now & then while still having fun creating amazing things along the way!

          Most of all...

       Enjoy the process!
